Hexie cardie sleeve

Hello there!

Crochet & Knitting

The goal I set last time is done, and it was more challenging than I thought. I had to take a break from crafting for several days because I was sick. And straining my eyes with an already present headache was not something I felt like doing. Sorry.

Vanilla socks

Not so much progress here, but I am enjoying it. I finished the cuff of the second sock and did a few rounds while travelling.
On the last travel (I went to see Cirque du Soleil: OVO – I highly recommend them), I was on a train surrounded by big guys going to a football game. They were all excited and loudly talked over each other. But the moment I took out my pink sock with my teeny tiny needles, all seven guys sitting around me went quiet for like 20 seconds.
I am used to people staring at me, starting a conversation, or even taking a picture. But this silence from all of those people was weird as heck.
They returned to their banter, and I put on my headphones, and there was nothing else unusual during this journey. I guess I will add “awkward group silence” to the list of people’s reactions to a crafter doing their crafts in public.

Anyway. This sock will have a lot more pink in it, so they will not be the same. But do I care? Naaaaah. I would be worried if there were holes or something like that.

Regarding the cuff - I will use smaller needles the next time. I do the same when I do ribbing in crochet, so I don’t see a reason why this wouldn’t work in knitting as, well.

Hexie Cardie

Both panels are finished, and one sleeve is done.
At first, I started the cuff with the 3.5 mm hook (as with the rest of the project), but it looked too holey, so I went down to 2.5 mm. I did 20 chains, so the cuff is 19 sc BLO tall, and I like that a lot. It fits, and it’s squishy and warm.

I thought this would be one of the finished projects, but as I had to take a break from crafting, there was no time to finish it without rushing. And I will not rush through a project because of some dumb self-imposed deadline. Right? This is a no-stress hobby.

Traveling Afghan

I finished the damn square #10. It took me three months!

Square #10

But as I got the experience from sock cuffs, I did not mind the alternating knits and purls. It’s all about how I hold the yarn, so it’s comfortable to switch.
Side note: I noticed that a lot of knitters hate purling. Why? I see that in videos, “…this was a challenging lace, but no purling, though”, and in patterns, “No purls!” Could someone explain that to me? Why are purls getting the hate?

Long vest

It’s done~! I had to finish it because I was meeting with the person who wanted it.

Long vest finished

I did a single crochet edging and granny square pockets, both with 5 mm hook. It was not planned, but I like how the pockets are fading symmetrically inwards.

And the recipient liked it. A lot – to my surprise.
I have a few leftover skeins, so I might make her a pillow because the yarn is so soft and squishy; I would want that on my face all day long :D.

Cross stitch

I was prepared this would take some time, like my other crafts. But holy cow, this takes forever.

I learned that a thread can form a nasty blob on the wrong side without me noticing. And that blob is impossible to undo, so cutting the floss to pieces and picking it out was my only option.
And I am going to learn another valuable lesson: how far can I get with frogging. Let me show you my current progress:

Bookmark front

It looks alright, but the whole grey section on the bottom is wrong. I used the second black horizontal line as my “base”, but I was supposed to use the first one. And I noticed that mistake just today when I took a picture of it. So, of course, my ends are woven in already. … Live and learn, right? I will fix it today.

If this little bookmark is taking so long, how long is it going to take me finish that gigantic LOTR canvas, where there are hanks of floss? That’s enough cross-stitching till retirement.

Yarny chit-chat

I am glad that I finished two projects and haven’t started a new one. And I think this idea should carry on.
I might have the cardie finished by the next time, but I don’t want to put pressure on myself. The only goal for the following two weeks should be: not starting more wips than having finished items because my WIP count is still too high (for me).
I watched a woman on youtube who said her WIP count is like 28, and she needs to bring it back to 20 and keep it there. All power to her, but that gave me anxiety XD.

See you in the next post ~
