Hello there!
Crochet & Knitting
Much more knitting than before ~
Vanilla socks
My dear sock ladies. Now I understand you.
I understand why sock knitters always have at least one pair of socks on the needles. I am joining the club.
She said, when she only made one sock. Ahem. Yeah, I know, but hear me out. I enjoy it. I enjoy that it’s not deadly difficult, it’s portable, it’s fully usable, and it’s something that can be made repeatedly and still bring the same joy.
Now I want all my socks hand-made, from the colours and fibres of my choice.
Alright, enough babbling. Here is the first sock and the cuff of the second one:
The tutorial makes it very easy - I followed it to the dot, and the sock fits. I don’t like the “leg” part this long, though. So, for my next pair, I will make it a lot lot lot shorter. And I will make shorter 2x2 rib cuffs or brioche, or heck, I might even crochet that part.
It still looks uneven! I tried to find some tips but to no avail here. I might use smaller needles the next time, but I am not going the “twisted stitches” way. I just unlearned that.
That’s the only frustrating part, but don’t tell me there is no solution.
Hexie Cardie
Oh well, I finished the first panel, and that ate the whole skein, and as I had only two, I knew an order was inevitable. So I looked around and ordered more yarn (and MORE YARN, see below) to continue with the project.
The funny thing is that the old Papatya was 20% wool, while the new one is 20% merino wool. I was worried that the colours and the texture would be different. So I anxiously awaited the box of joy to arrive, only to see the yarn was the same.
I started the second panel, and everything looks fine:
I enjoy working on it; it’s mindless and does not take up hardly any space, so I work on it usually during meetings.
Rainbow Blanket
Look at this beautiful yarn colour:
I wanted to knit a blanket out of this. But after swatching for two patterns and screwing up both of them, I’ve decided to crochet it. I am not sure which stitch/style/pattern I am going to use, but it’s already a WIP because I want to work with the rainbow.
Like now, if possible.
Long vest
I was asked to make a long vest with this yarn (all of those are one colourway):
And three days later, the same person changed her mind and bought a grey-toned variegated yarn instead. Bonus for me: the bright yarn is now mine. However, I told her that I would make a lapgan for her.
So, I questioned what kind of long vest she wanted and then made up a design. So here is the current progress:
There is no pattern; I started with a chain of singles that fit her shoulder width and then continued with moss/linen stitch. I connected the front panels as I created them and increased when I felt like it. No pattern, just pure creative chaos.
She also wants pockets and a hood - no problem. I will figure it out. The good thing is that she loves it already, while it looks wonky and raw (no edging yet). Another good thing is that it’s working up quickly. I am using a 10 mm Prym hook for that, and it glides beautifully. The last (and also first) time I used the Prym hooks, the yarn was sticking to the hook, it was squeaking, and the whole experience was so meh that I wanted to throw the hooks away. But apparently, the hooks are fine; they are just yarn-picky.
Cross stitch
I told you last time; a new craft would come my way. I ordered a few many kits, and I started the simplest one first. It’s supposed to be a Harry Potter-themed bookmark.
Here it is:
And here is the back:
So far, I have enjoyed doing it. It’s something completely different, and yet it’s not. It’s a fibre art that usually takes a long time to finish. But all the techniques are new to me. And you already know I enjoy the learning part the most.
And because I am crazy, I also ordered a huge stamped canvas that should result in a LOTR scene. It’s so big some of the floss colours arrived in hanks. Mein goth.
I don’t regret it, but I know it’s gonna take me years to get through that one little order. At least I know boredom will steer clear of this house.
Acquisitions
Here I am, throwing my NYRs into the garbage bin.
I bought some yarn at some places, and only a tiny part was mindful, intentional and with a project in mind - and that was the yarn for the hexie cardie.
So, here is the first one:
There is the yarn for the hexie cardie, the rainbow blanket (I did not have a project in mind when I bought it), a skein of sock yarn that is supposed to make a pretty pattern. Then two skeins of VlnaHep Waltz because I saw a project out of it, and the colours made it gorgeous. Not sure what I will make of it -> right into the stash.
And the last part is three skeins of brown for my amigurumi stash - I was running out of those two shades, so I took the opportunity and replenished them.
Then, here is a neon coral coloured Ice yarn:
It’s so bright and beautiful, and it kept calling my name. And when I touched it, it was like touching a cloud, so there was no way in hell I would leave it.
And do you know what was the best surprise? It’s also neon-y inside!
Do I know what I am going to make from it? No. Do I regret buying it? Hell no.
And last but not least. I bought this fluffy yarn:
I had to have it, and now I also have a project in mind. I want a rug for my bedroom, just something to step on when rolling off the bed.
I also bought some small things like zippers, a row counter and such.
I was crafting a lot because those two weeks were calm, and I had time to enjoy it. So I sort of don’t regret buying any of the yarns. I am sure I will use them eventually.
On the other hand, the yarn for the hexie cardie was chosen because I wanted to use up those two skeins I had. And instead of using it up and getting it out of my stash, I bought three more skeins to finish it up, and I am sure I will have at least one leftover skein. Eh. That’s something to work on.
(Short) Yarny chit-chat
Did you notice? I skipped all the projects I did not work on. I counted all my wips, and the total number is 10. Plus one cross-stitch wip. Uh. That’s not something I want to have. But I couldn’t help it; I usually have startatis in the springtime.
So, the goal for the next time is to have 0 new wips and at least two FOs. I am sure I can do that. Root for me, people. I can’t have project bags all over the house. It’s starting to give me anxiety.
See you in the next post ~
