Hello there!
I missed another week of sc~dc. And it will be a regular thing from now on. I realized that I was too ambitious - I do not have enough progress to show every single week that would be interesting. So, instead of boring you, I will scale down the schedule.
From those 14 days, I was out of the house for eight days and had guests over for two days. That’s not enough crafting time, and I would rather work on something than write a blog post right now. But I am an adult and can postpone my gratification a bit. And I can also speed-write this; I used to win speed-typing races at high school. We can make things work here. Right?
Crochet & Knitting
I got overwhelmed with all my WIPs, which blocked me when I was home and had an hour or two to spare. Huge projects are great, but having too many of them is not something I want to continue—more about this in the chit-chat section.
The Ugly blanket
I wanted to get this one done, and I spent a lot of time working on it. I can say that I passed the halfway point. Yay! It looks good; it’s squishy and nice to touch, so the horrible yarn is not that horrible after all.
I did 60 rows of increases on both sides and 7 rows of increases on one side - to make it rectangular. I wanted to stop at 57 increases because the width was alright, but that felt like a weird number, so I added three more (damn long) rows and continued until I ran out of the grey yarn.
The lighter colour skein looks intimidating, but I try to rationalize that the decreasing rows will go quicker.
Traveling Afghan
Not so much progress here. The last time you saw this, I was at row 16. Now I am at row 25.
As you can see, that is not a lot of work. And I did that in three sittings because I had to really focus.
Welp, no rush. I can finish it when I retire in like 50 years.
The red line that is not the cable is my lifeline. I figured that a red lifeline looked cool. I am happy to say that I did not have a need for it.
I want to push through this square and then reward myself with one that is easy. That’s in the very distant future.
Cable hat
I have not started this one. Still. Yep.
I don’t feel like starting it right now. We will not talk about it.
Sis Shawl
This one got quite a bit of attention from me. I took it with me on the mountain trip (the best vacation of my life, by the way). And I worked on it during the evenings when it was too dark to be outside.
Heck, I worked on it even during breakfast - we sat outside, watched the mountains, the ski slope and all nature’s gorgeousness, sipped coffee and talked about the adventures of the upcoming day.
I think it’s starting to look way better with the colours fading in.
I haven’t touched it since the trip because I needed a break from it, but I am sure I will pick it up again soon.
Yarny chit-chat: Too many WIPs
I have too many WIPs chilling in my living room. And when I increased that number, I thought - no biggie, I like a variety of projects. Sure, I can add another one. To keep it fun and to switch between projects if I get bored.
But when my choices were: huge blanket, huge blanket (a sleeping WIP now), a lightweight shawl, a complex hat, and a knitting project that I needed to focus on - I did not want to play with yarn at all. I felt like if I spent that, e.g. half an hour I had, there would be no accomplishment.
Not sure if that thought was temporary, but it sure stopped me.
Now, my main objective is to finish what I have and then start something new. I might add a simple project once I finish one of the big ones.
I don’t mind big projects per se, and I will keep having some on my WIP list, but for me, it’s important to see progress ~ and thus have an easier/fast project going on as well.
Postcards
I did not receive any cards or send any. But almost all of those I had sent were delivered - aaaalmost. Sometimes I wonder why a card is in transit for over 60 days. And where are all the cards that were never delivered?
But there are answers I may not want to hear…
See you in the next post ~
