Hello, dear viewer, if you haven’t, please like and consider subsribing. I am just kidding, but that’s basically where I come from. After watching so many wonderful and inspiring people on YouTube, I’ve decided to start my own “blogcast”. And what better time to pick than a new year and shove another resolution down my laundry list.
I want this to be about yarn crafts, postcards and occasionally other stuff. If you haven’t guessed by the name of the blogcast, I am a crocheter and that is currently my main crafty outlet.
Let me quickly explain the name
sc~dc means single crochet ~ double crochet. And it also points to AC/DC, because I enjoy the old farts and the music from that genre and some of the people that like their music too.
How often is this going to happen
Honestly, that is a question I have no answer for. Of course, I would like it to be as regular as possible, but I do not want to pressure myself. Plus, I will not blog just for the sake of blogging. If I have nothing to say or show, it does not make sense for me to artificially came up with posts.
If you are a crafter yourself, you know there are times when your crojo is gone or life is happening. And other times the finished projects are pilling up so quickly you don’t know what to do with them.
I will see, if this will pick up and bring me joy then it might happen more regularly.
The P.L.A.N.S.
Apart from blogging about my projects, and maybe taking some of you with me on this joyful journey, I want to learn new things.
So, I conveniently use this time (New Year) to set some recommendations for myself (because resolutions sound too harsh).
- I’ve been crocheting for a while but never made a proper blanket. So, I want to make a full-size-person blanket.
- I want to learn knitting, so the first stepping stone is a hat. Any wearable hat that I would not be ashamed to wear in public.
- The next step is to learn to knit socks - a wearable pair of sock is the next recommendation. If they are the same size, that would be nice.
- Send 50 postcards to the world.
The last one is not exactly a “recommendation” because it cannot be measured. But I would like to buy yarn mindfully and with purpose. The last three months, I went nuts and bought so many skeins and cakes because “they are so beautiful, I need to have them”. Yep. Not any of that, please, 2023.
I have other recommendations, but they are personal and not related to crafts. I don’t want my life to revolve around crafts only.
Crochet
Finished objects
As I do not have any lower bound for before. I am going to show you a few of my recent FOs.
Deadpool Pillow
This bad boy has its own blog post.
The Ozzy Hat
As Ozzy Osbourne released his new album this September, we all went a bit crazy because it’s a really great old-school style album. So I decided to commemorate that with a hat for a family member, who went a bit more crazy than others.
Usually, hats are made from top-down or brim-up. Nah, I started in the middle, made the basic beanie using tunisian simple stitch from bottom to top and then continued in skewed rows, while changing colours to create the logo. Then I added the sc in BLO brim.
I used a skein of Schachenmayr Bravo in black and approx. half a skein of white.
He got it for XMas half done and looked like “WTF am I supposed to do with this”. Well, I have no perception of people’s head sizing, so I finished it while he was trying it on. I think he liked the result. If he doesn’t feel like having that pom pom on, he can easily take it off.
Hexie cardigan
Lynette of Charmed Grammy Crochet started a Christmas make-along for an ugly Christmas sweater. She was following this pattern from Hobbii. I wanted to make that cardigan for a while, so I was surprised that a thing I wanted to make was picked for a MAL. So, I decided to join in, but not right away, because I had other projects on the hook.
As she was finishing it up, she talked about some stuff she didn’t like about the pattern. So I decided to wing it and create my own pattern as I go. I started with two hexagons, that’s all I knew about the pattern. I should note that I’d never made a wearable before, apart from hats.
It was easier than I thought, even though I frogged it three or four times. Another achievement unlocked!
I used 8 mm hook and Lanoso Cazz Batik yarn in colour 719. I think I used 7 skeins.
Neon Shawl
I saw this beautiful neon cake online and had to have it. And I was wondering what to do with it, because it’s too thin for a blanket and too crazy for an amigurumi and with too long colour changes for a scarf.
I ended up making my first shawl and I gave it to a family member that loves to wear crazy colours. She wore it the last time I saw her, so I suppose she really likes it. WIN.
Don’t mind the velvety background, I don’t have a better photo of the shawl.
I used this pattern, one cake and a tiny bit of pink from the second one.
Llama Pillow
An absolutely unplanned project, but I fell in love with it the moment I saw it on Sarah’s site.
There is a separate blog post about this, because I made some changes to the pattern.
Axolotl
A random and quick evening make that turned out so stinking cute I won’t be able to put needles or pins anywhere near it. This pattern is from my Raverly library and I just wanted to use some scraps I had on my desk from the Llama Pillow.
I added a magnet inside his belly and he does hold a lot.
Ripple Star Madness
My first blanket ever! It was so frustrating and annoying I will never do this particular pattern again. One stitch all around. And the last rounds took me more than an hour each!
I used Kartopu Baby One and made a decent size star blanket. That picture show a bed for two people… I hated double crochet for a while.
I kind of love the end result but the never-ending rounds were really hard and I was in a hurry. The baby loved it though.
Baby Yoda the Rockstar
Baby Yoda was so popular this one is my third one. I give some of my makes to a local shelter and they sell them and the lady that runs the shelter told me Baby Yoda was the first one gone and the buyer asked for more.
Of course, he is all finished, his coat is sewn up, but I just enjoyed his rockstar look for a bit.
I used Merino from Vlnap.
Hadoop
As an IT engineer that works in the Big Data area, I wanted to make the Hadoop Elephant and I couldn’t find the right pattern for him. But here he is in his full glory. I enjoyed his company for a while but he will be donated.
WIPs
The Ugly C2C Blanket
I bought two huge skeins of yarn in a local store only because it was huge and I’d never seen anything like that HERE. I bought all (both) colours they had and I was trying to make something, but all projects came out ugly as hell because the colours are ugly, the yarn is rough, and the whole thing is just MEH. But I refused to give up and after like seventh project, I found a home for both of those megaskeins.
I’ve never made a corner-to-corner project, so I jumped over to Terri’s, learned how it’s done and it’s currently my only WIP.
I have three other WIPs, but they are sleeping and I am not sure when I will get back to them.
Postcards
I joined a project that connects people from all over the globe. We send postcards to each other. But since this post is already too long, I will reserve the postcards section for the next episode.
Thanks for sticking with me, Happy New Year!
